BARRON WINS MODIFIED PRODUCTION
CROWN AT MARYBOROUGH SPEEDWAY CLUB
Kingaroy Modified Production Speedway
driver Ashley Barron was ecstatic when he was told he was the
overall club Champion for Modified Production at the Maryborough
presentation trophy night.
Barron had a tremendous season, with
competing at all the production rounds at Maryborough notching
up several wins. Other local ASCF Junior sedan driver Nathan
Barbeler was awarded 3rd place in the ASCF Junior
Sedan Section.
Ashley also travelled to La Trobe in
Tasmania to contest the Australian National Modified Title held
earlier this year. Barron had a dream run at Tassie and
qualified for the A Main feature, but unfortunately mechanical
failure caused him not to finish the final. Ashley has also just
taken on the new president’s role of the South Burnett Speedway
Club with a big season planned for the new season.
The South Burnett Speedway Club and
the South Burnett National Show Society are working together
with a new fence upgrade. The old fence is being replaced with a
new concrete fence complete with a 4.5metre catchment fence
which complies with all Nasar standards, which will enable us to
run V8 Sprintcars, V8 Super Sedans, Late Models sedans plus all
other divisions. At the moment our club is in hot negotiation
with the V8 Sprint cars which have been intentionally booked for
our first meeting scheduled for the 6th of November.
The new committee for the South
Burnett Speedway Club is President Ashley Barron, Treasurer
David Musch, and Secretary Michelle Barbeler. Stay tuned for
further press releases.
Thanking you

last year. Barbeler raced all over south east Queensland as well
as competing at the Australian Junior Title held at Latrobe

year notching up many wins under his belt.
Nathan was victorious in winning the
Full set of panels proudly sponsored by Col’s Fibreglass. The
Col’s Fiberglass ASCF/SSA Junior Sedan Series was a series held
at Maryborough ran over 3 different meetings. Nathan recently
attended the Maryborough Sporting Car Club annual trophy dinner
presentation and claimed third position in the overall points.
Nathan has been recognized as a Local
Sporting Champion for his recognition of his achievement and his
dedication to his sport by the Australian Sports Commission.
Nathan now 16 years old has been racing since he was ten years
old, time is fast running out for the youngster as this will be
his last year in the junior ranks.
Nathan is very excited with the new
development which is happening at the Kingaroy Showgrounds, the
South Burnett Speedway Club has banded together and has a new
committee which has started the new construction of a concrete
fence, new seating area, as well as a new track surface. The new
fence will ensure big dollar meeting to be held at Kingaroy with
the return of Sprintcars, V8 Super Sedans, Late Models and we
will see the return of bikes back in the Burnett. The new club
is back bigger and better than before.
The
South Burnett Speedway Club is in full swing again after the
successful meeting of the Monster trucks held on the 28th of
November 2009. We are currently working with the South Burnett
Show Society with the replacement of the old fence with a new
concrete wall and catchment fence. The South Burnett Speedway
club will commence stage 2 and replace the second section from
the control tower to the in / out gate. This is built to
engineering standards and applies to all of NASCAR standards

We are currently raising funds to
develop our new Track Venue in conjunction with the South
Burnett Regional Council. Estimated costs are $100 per lineal metre. We thank our

Cousins to contest ASCF Qld Titles at Brisbane International
Speedway.
The re-scheduled event of the Qld ASCF Junior Sedan State Title
is being held at Brisbane this weekend 2nd May, as the original
event was washed out in February at Rockhampton. This event is
being scheduled in conjunction with the Qld V8 Super Sedan
Title. Nathan Barbeler and Renae Barron
cousins will head the charge
for the South Burnett Speedway Club team. Renae started
racing at 12 years old, she is now 14 and has been competing in
her Suzuki Swift across south east Qld to gain valuable
experience before the Qld title, qualifying strongly in the
features. Nathan started racing in this class at the age
of ten, Nathan has been doing extremely well, but has
missed a few race meetings due to a massive rollover at Gympie
before Christmas. Nathan is really excited about his
campaign in his new charade which was purchased off the newly
crowned Aust. champion, Nathan has never driven this car
before, but he has said he will give it his best shot to be on
the podium. The final list of nominations was a total of 39 kids
ranging from the age of 10yrs old to 17. This event has kids
coming from all over Aust., with Dean Cottrrell coming
from South Australia also competing will be Jesse Nicholas
and Mitch Whiting from Victoria. Hot off the press is the
news of the shock withdrawal from the current Australian
champion Charlie Brown, who broke his arm after a heavy
fall in a motocross bike accident. This was Charlie’s
last Qld title and he was looking forward to trying to put the
magical Qld 1 beside his Aust. 1 title. The other withdrawal was
Adrian Cottrell from South Australia, who is also
supporting a broken collar bone after a Jet skiing accident.
This title can be taken out by any one of the 39 competitors,
with the shock withdrawal of the two top favourites the title is
up for grabs, and anything could happen …good luck to everyone
on Saturday night.

Maryborough Track over the Easter long weekend, 9 South Burnett
Speedway Club members competed and they were; Steve Akers,
Simon Barbeler, Jeff Hadley, Lance Hadley, Neil Harm, TJ
Horne, Max Marshall, Laurie & Shane Wicks. There were 54
Street Sedans competing from all over the state, the track was
in excellent condition & the officials made sure the 2 day event
ran without a hitch. Rain threatened on Saturday night when
racing was halted for half an hour to let the rain pass. Many
vehicles took a battering on the track, Neil Harms’
gearbox failed on Saturday night; he drove home to Wondai that
night, changed out gearboxes the next morning & was back at the
Maryborough track by lunchtime Sunday ready to compete. 5
drivers; Max Marshall, Laurie Wicks, Lance Hadley, Shane
Wicks & Steve Akers started the finals in the C-main,
to qualify for the B-main a driver must finish 1st or
2nd; unfortunately none of these drivers went onto
the B-main. 2 drivers; Neil Harm & TJ Horne
started in the B-main, to qualify for A-main a driver must
finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th,
Neil Harm went through to compete in the A-main Feature

SPEEDWAY WRAP - QSCA JUNIOR TITLE
Only 2 QSCA Junior South Burnett Speedway Club
members made it to the State Title which was held at Gympie on
Saturday 14th March; Josh Harm & Nathan
Barbeler. Josh Harm raced well; he won 2 heats & came
2nd in his 3rd heat, qualifying in poll
position for the feature. Josh lead for about half the
feature race, taking the hairpin turn a little wide on one
occasion enabled Brad Jennings to take the lead. Josh remained
in 2nd place until approx. the final 4 laps when he
sustained a flat tyre, forcing him to retire from the race.
Nathan Barbeler finished the Feature race, being awarded 9th
in State. Other South Burnett Members racing in other classes on
the night were – Renae Barron in ASCF Juniors & TJ
Horne in Street Sedans. 3 of our QSCA Junior members did not
make the race meeting, due to an accident on the way to the
Gympie track. One of the Hadley Race Team vehicles with
an enclosed trailer rolled approx. 3km west of the Woolooga turn
off. Seeing they were travelling in convoy with the Wicks
family, nobody proceeded, all assisting with the injured & clean
up. Although 2 people were transported to Gympie hospital for
x-rays, no one was badly injured, all returning to Kingaroy
later that night to tune into the internet radio streaming of
the Title to hear how their team mates went.

contesting the QSCA Junior Street Sedan Qld Title. They are
Josh Harm, Jason Hadley, Danni Wicks & Josh
Wicks.
Another SB Junior club member

At close of nominations there are 20 Junior drivers who are
competing at the Title held at the Gympie Mothar Mountain track
on March 14th. Going by Josh Harms
performance on the week-end at Maryborough (winning all his
races including the Feature); he has a very good chance. Our
Club is proud of all four drivers, who have been consistently
improving throughout the season. Danni & Jason
have been racing soundly. Josh Wicks will be racing his
brand new VS Commodore which he only stepped into on the
week-end. The QSCA Junior Street Sedans are the same vehicle
which can be raced by senior Street Sedan drivers. They are 4 &
6 cylinder basic stock standard cars allowing minor
modifications. The Junior drivers are aged between 12 & 16 years
old. There is strong bond between our Junior drivers; supporting
each other, we wish them all good luck. The ASCF Junior Title

SPEEDWAY WRAP - GYMPIE SUPER STREET QLD TITLE
The
Super Street Qld Title was packed with action. One competitor
Robert Foster crashed into another car (see attached
pictures). Gympie Speedway Publicity Officer Mr. Paul Vella
confirmed “Robert’s passenger; his father George was
taken to hospital with a fracture to his lower vertebra, but
with some rest he will be ok”. Neil Harm took his vehicle
out in grand parade & discovered it was having a problem, he
decided not to race in case of causing more damage to his
engine. Josh Harm raced in TJ Horne’s car, he won 2
heats, came 3rd in another. In his feature, he hit a
rut in the track which flung the car up into the wall, ending
his night of racing. TJ Horne raced consistently, but did
not compete in his feature due to the cars damage.

SPEEDWAY WRAP
- MARYBOROUGH
Five
South Burnett drivers made the journey to Maryborough Speedway
track to compete against some of the best drivers around the
state. Josh Harm: QSCA Junior, Neil Harm: Street
Sedan & Super Street, T.J. Horne & the Akers Brothers:
Street Sedan; all gave their best shot with some misfortunes
occurring. Josh Harm had a very good night, 2 wins & 2nd
place in the heats, claiming pole position for the final, he led
the final till the last few laps, until he was pushed into the
wall, but survived finishing in 3rd place. Neil Harm
previously coming off two feature wins in Maryborough started
the night well, 1st heat in Super Street came in 2nd
place, and 1st heat in Street Sedans came home in 3rd
position. 2nd heat, he started last, was almost to
the 1st when his engine had a big blow up – that was
the end of the night for Neil. T.J. Horne didn’t have a very
good night, with car problems throughout the night. After the 1st
heat he found the alternator failed, 2nd heat – no
better, 3rd heat – even worse; missing badly & he
found the battery was flat. Starting last in the B main, he had
a very good run& was not far behind the winning cars. The Akers
Brothers both driving the same car n different heats, had a
mixed night. The car on the night didn’t seem to have top speed.
The track was sticky, dry & wet, over all a good night was had
by all.

SOUTH BURNETT SPEEDWAY MEMBERS ROLLED OVER IN GYMPIE
An
action packed night of racing for our South Burnett Speedway
Club members who raced on Saturday 15th. The Gympie
track is vastly different to Kingaroy; it has a hill & hair pin
corner, making this very much a unique track & the racing always
interesting. Considering the area received a lot of rain prior,
the track became very rough on the corners. Our local Street
Sedans competitors; Neil Harm hasn’t raced this track for
8 years, completing against strong competition & finishing 3rd
in the feature. Greg & Steve Akers & Max
Marshall raced this track for the first time, Max qualifying
for the A main feature. Lance Hadley raced his
fist ever race on any track, doing well. TJ Horne raced
strong until his steering rack broke. Laurie Wicks &
Jeff Hadley coming away with damage. Our Junior drivers kept
the action going with Josh Harm finishing the QSCA Junior
Feature in 3rd position; being the 2nd
time of racing on this track. Nathan Barbeler in ASCF
Junior class; had an action packed roll over in his Charade,
himself ok but leaving his car destroyed. Our other QSCA Juniors
were Ben Stead, Danni & Josh Wicks all
racing for the first time on this track. Our Juniors are keen to
get some practice on this track, due to their State Title being
held here early next year. The biggest roll over for the night
was by Ron Oliver Senior in the 4 cylinder class, rolling
his car 3 times in spectacular fashion. Unfortunately a photo
was not available at time of printing. The next race meeting is
in Maryborough on 29th November, then Gympie again on
December 13th.

South burnett Speedway Club race Mary 1000
The
Mary1000, a big dollar event for the class Street Sedans was
held at the Maryborough speedway on Saturday 1st
November 2008. The South Burnett Speedway Club had 9 drivers
competing among 51 drivers nominated in the event from across
south east Queensland. Maryborough is holding this seasons
State Title for Street Sedans, so our drivers are keen to get
some track time.Neil
Harm
started in the first heat – the track being soft as is usual for
early heats. He won convincingly, with a bonus of setting the
heats fastest time in lap 4.David
Barbeler
stepped into his new AU Falcon; a change for a long time Holden
driver! No fear of mistaking him though, as his familiar racing
colours reminded everyone of who was behind the wheel.Aaron
Seiler
had a good run, coming forth in a very close heat, driving Josh
Harms’ AU Falcon.Trevor
& TJ Horne
were both racing strong. TJ had an unfortunate tyre blow out in
one heat.Jeff
Hadley
raced very consistently, being his first season as a senior
driver.Shane
Wicks
raced for the first time in 2 seasons, guiding Lance Hadley’s VL
Commodore to strong finishes.
Max
Marshall
had a poll start in heat 8, leading the race for 3 ½ laps before
finishing 4th, in his first racing season.Laurie
Wicks’
ED Falcon ran well throughout the night. Unfortunately the
meeting had to be called off due to the rain, with only 3 of our
drivers having completed their 3 heats. The Mary1000 will be
re-scheduled at a later date in Maryborough. Our next race meet
will be at Mothar Mountain Gympie on November 15th.
This track is where the Junior QSCA State Title is held this
season, so we will have a lot of our Juniors going to
familiarise themselves with the track. The Mary 100 has now
been re-scheduled for February 28th 2009
